Tell you what...trying to find someone to guide me into local food foraging is next to impossible. Maybe it is just Louisville (Kentucky USA) or maybe I am just searching under the wrong terms, but I won't give up!
During the last few days of downpour, I sat near my sliding glass window/door, watching the rain patter against the maple tree that looms directly over my patio. It occurred to me...why don't we ever hear about eating tree leaves? Like maple...could we eat the tender new beginnings in the Spring? Maybe collect them in the Summer to fry or dehydrate for Winter use? Shouldn't they have enough nutrients to justify harvesting them? They certainly are prolific! And what about those little seeds pods that I called 'helicopters' as a child?
I did find this site: https://www.ediblewildfood.com/blog/2019/04/edible-maple-leaves-deep-fried-and-delicious/ ... good news, right? At least for the leaves.
But I need more information.
Not just for me, but to post here for you.
Tell me: what plants near your home could possibly fill your belly if there was nothing else? (Or, heck, even if you DO have other food).
Let me know in the comments.
